MARTINA CARR: Who is the most overrated individual in the war?
KIRILL ANDERSON: I don’t want to talk about American or British generals – on the Soviet side I think the most overrated individual was Marshal Zhukov. This is only my personal point view but I believe that the best military leader is not the one that wins most of the battles, but the one that saves most of his soldiers. And for Zhukov the number of losses amongst his soldiers wasn’t very important. The same applies for Timoshenko. But there were other talented Soviet generals who also did care about their soldiers – that’s why I think Zhukov is overrated.
